Latest News About College Reopening in Tamilnadu

There is uncertainty hanging on the reopening of colleges in Tamil Nadu from the first week of August 2021. Post covid second-wave outbreak the state has temporarily closed the schools and colleges citing concern over students’ health. However now as the positivity rate is coming down in the state as well as the country there are demands of reopening the colleges. Earlier the previous month, the Education Minister had announced that the Class XIIth result will be compiled by the authorities on the new criteria and the same will be released by July 31, 2021.

This announcement has stirred a question in the minds of the students that colleges will be opened for the admission of freshers in the first years. The answer to which can be Yes! Post the announcement of fresh criteria of class 10+2 marks evaluation. The education minister of the state held a meeting with CM M K Stalin and the agenda of the meeting was the “Reopening of the Colleges”.

The meeting resulted in another announcement that says post declaration of the marks on July 31, 2021, admission in Government, semi-government and private colleges will commence. The Education Minister further issued a warning against those colleges that have started the admission process before the announced date.

The Education Ministry has released the fresh evaluation criteria for the class XIIth students. As per the new evaluation criteria for the Intermediate students, the result will be compiled by considering class Xth, XIth, and XIIth internal marks. In this, the class Xth marks will have 50% weightage while class XIth marks will have around 20% weightage and internal assessment of class XIIth will have 30% of weightage in the total marks.

Another positive news that supports that colleges will open on 01 August 2021 is that the admission process in polytechnic colleges that considers class XIth marks has been started the previous week. This simply implies that the situation regarding the reopening of colleges and admission in the first year will be more clear after the Intermediate results are declared by the CBSE and State Board.

The commencement of offline classes in colleges will take some time as the covid cases are still there and the state is void of proper resources to adjust maximum students in a single class. The colleges will be fully operational once the lockdown eases in the state and the positivity rate is much lower as of now. However, till that time online classes will be scheduled such that the studies of students are not affected by these things.
