Last Date to Apply for GATE 2021

Today, October 07, 2020, is the last date to apply for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE)-2020 with regular fee. Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, will keep registration facility open at GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) until October 12, 2020. However, today onwards candidates will have to pay extra fee of Rs. 500.

To apply, the candidates need to visit gate.iitb.ac.in and click on the link for “GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS)”. Next, the candidates are directed to GOAP. To register, candidates need to click on “New User? Register Here” and enter basic details. Once, the registration is done, candidates need to fill the form, upload images, and pay the application fee.

The amount of GATE 2021 application fee is Rs. 1500 for UR and OBC candidates, Rs. 750 for SC / ST/ PwD / Transgender / Female candidate and USD 50 for candidates belonging to applying for Addis Ababa, Colombo, Dhaka, Kathmandu exam centers. For Dubai/ Singapore exam centers the amount of fee is USD 100.

IIT Bombay has recently also announced that it will keep the window to login at GOAPS open from October 28 to November 13, 2020 for form corrections. In this time, candidates can change the exam city choices for free. However category, and paper change will be subject to payment of an additional fee.

GATE 2021 Application Form Status After Scrutiny

All the respective zonal GATE offices will go through the received applications and check for accuracy of data. They will check uploaded documents, photographs, and signatures. If everything is fine then the status will be displayed as accepted, else defect reasons will be given. Candidates must correct the defects before the last date.

Candidates must take note of the last date of intimation to registered candidates after scrutiny. This date is October 21, 2020. To check the status candidates must login to GOAPS (GATE Online Application Processing System).

The status can display any of the following – received, under scrutiny, accepted, defect status, status after rectification, rejected with valid reasons.

If the status is either received or under scrutiny, then login again after some time to see status after scrutiny.

If the status says defect status then note the defect and correct it.

Then if the status is status after rectification, follow instructions given in the GOAPS.

If it is accepted, then you can logout and simply login again later when the admit card is released.

However if the final status is rejected, then one cannot appear in the exam.

It may be noted that initially the last date to apply with regular fee was September 30, 2020. However due to candidates’ requests for an extension, mainly because the official website was displaying different server errors and hence many could not apply on time, IITB had extended the deadline with a regular fee for 7 days. This time there are few instances of server issues and hence any more extensions are not expected.
