After months of anticipation and speculation, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has finally announced the JEE Main 2022 exam schedule. As corroborated by the Education Ministry in February 2022, the entrance test will be conducted in two sessions – April and May 2022. To apply for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2022, interested and eligible candidates can begin applying through the online mode, on jeemain.nta.nic.in.
In addition to the online application form, NTA has also released the JEE Main 2022 information brochure on the official website. This brochure specifies the eligibility criteria, application process, syllabus, exam pattern, schedule, etc. While reading the exam pattern mentioned in the brochure, candidates noted an important change in the paper.
JEE Main 2022 Exam Pattern
As per the JEE Main 2022 exam pattern, the paper will be divided into three subjects – Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics. Each subject has been divided into two sections – Section A and Section B. The paper will also be covering two kinds of questions i.e., Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. The distribution of both such questions will be in the following manner –
# Section A – MCQs
# Section B – NAT questions
The JEE Main 2022 examination will be conducted through the computer-based format, at selected centres across the country. The paper will comprise of 90 questions in total, for a maximum of 300 marks. Several education boards including CBSE have reduced the syllabus for Class 12 students. However, the JEE Main 2022 paper will cover the entire syllabus. So, to normalize this situation, optional questions will be provided in each subject section.
JEE Main 2022 Negative Marking in Both Sections
As per the JEE Main 2022 information brochure, Section A will comprise 20 MCQs which are compulsory. Similarly, Section B will comprise of 10 NAT questions out of which, students need to attempt any 5. The marking scheme for both sections shall remain the same as mentioned below –
Correct Answer/Most appropriate option: 4 marks
Incorrect answer: -1 mark
unattempted/Unanswered question – 0 marks
Previously, negative marking was applicable only to Section A, while 0 marks were allotted for wrong or unanswered questions in Section B. However, this year, both sections have the provision of negative marking. To the delight of students, NTA has retained the options questions in this year’s JEE Main paper.
JEE Main 2022 Exam Schedule
As per the information brochure, JEE Main 2022 Session 1 will be organized from April 16 to 21, 2022, at selected centers across the country. On the other hand, Session 2 will be held from May 24 to 29, 2022.
