When will NTA release the JEE Main 2021 registration form? This is the most common question being asked by engineering aspirants in the past few days. Even with the end of October near, there is no JEE Main 2021 exam date schedule in sight.
A quick recap of last year’s timeline:
Last year, NTA announced the JEE Main exam dates, along with NEET and other exams schedules through a common NTA exam calendar on August 22. This was done online at nta.ac.in, and through press releases in leading major dailies.
Then the registration for JEE Main began on September 2. At the same time, NTA published the brochure and other key guidelines for the Joint Entrance Examination at jeemain.nta.nic.in.
By October 10 of last year, the application form of JEE Main was closed.
Ideally this year also NTA was looked forward to announcing the JEE Main 2021 exam dates in August, and open registration for the January session in September.
However 2020 has not been an ideal year, and with the pandemic throwing normal life for a tizzy, delay was expected. Nevertheless students are now growing a tad restless to know the exact situation, with the spotlight questions being – What will be the exam date of JEE Main 2021? And when will registration begin?
Under normal circumstances, the JEE Main January exam is supposed to happen in the second week of January 2021, and the April exam in first or second week of April 2021. But for the January exam to happen like that, the registration should begin in October/November.
This year different aspects of the exam are anticipated to be affected – Exam date (as schedule seems to be delayed), syllabus (schools are yet to open in full force, CBSE has slashed syllabus), and more. It will be crucial for NTA and other bodies involved to take the right decisions in these regards to ensure that students can apply on time, prepare for them under these circumstances, and take the career-deciding exam smoothly. These questions remain unanswered until NTA releases the JEE Main 2021 brochure.
In the recently concluded session of JEE Main i.e. the JEE Main 2020, 5.88 lakh students had applied for Jan and April/September session. 4.81 lakh appeared in both the exams. In the Jan session, 9.21 lakh had registered and 8.69 lakh had appeared. In Apr/Sep session 8.41 lakh had registered and 6.35 lakh had appeared.
Official Announcements on JEE Main 2021
Recently Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank said that JEE Main 2021 will be held in more regional languages, in line with the NEP. Though in exactly how many, and which languages, he did not clarify.
Another related report is on the JEE Advanced 2021 – that students who qualified and registered for JEE Advanced 2020, but could not write the exam, will be allowed to sit for JEE Advanced 2021 directly without qualifying JEE Main 2021.
Other than these, there is no official news on JEE Main 2021 yet, from NTA or any other body. Some official report is expected shortly.
