✅ JEE Advanced 2026 Eligibility Criteria

A candidate must satisfy all five criteria listed below to be eligible for JEE Advanced 2026:

Criterion 1 — Performance in JEE Main 2026

Candidates must be among the top 2,50,000 successful candidates (across all categories) in JEE Main 2026 Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech). The category-wise distribution of the 2.5 lakh seats is as follows:

CategoryPercentage of 2.5 LakhApprox. Seats
OPEN (General)40.5%~1,01,250
OBC-NCL27%~67,500
GEN-EWS10%~25,000
SC15%~37,500
ST7.5%~18,750
PwD (horizontal, within each)5% within each~12,500

Criterion 2 — Age Limit

Candidates must have been born on or after October 1, 2001. For SC, ST, and PwD candidates, a relaxation of 5 years applies — they must be born on or after October 1, 1996.

Criterion 3 — Number of Attempts

A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of two times in two consecutive years. If you appeared for JEE Advanced 2025, this will be your second and final attempt. First-timers in 2026 will still have one more attempt available in 2027.

Criterion 4 — Appearance in Class 12 (or Equivalent)

Candidates must have appeared for Class 12 (or equivalent board exam) for the first time in 2025 or 2026, with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as subjects. Candidates who appeared for Class 12 before 2025 are generally not eligible, unless their board declared results on or after June 18, 2024.

Criterion 5 — Earlier Admission to IITs

Candidates who were admitted to any IIT under any program (through JoSAA 2025 or earlier) are NOT eligible, regardless of whether they continued the program or not. Exception: Candidates admitted to a preparatory course at any IIT for the first time in 2026 are eligible.

⚠️ Important for Class 12 students: You need to have scored a minimum of 75% aggregate marks (65% for SC/ST/PwD) in Class 12 for IIT admission — this is verified at the time of JoSAA counselling, not at registration.
