M.Sc degree is offered by several institutions in India. It is a sought after option after graduation. There are a few M.Sc entrance exams in India, out of which JAM is an important one.
The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) hold Joint Admission Test for M.Sc or JAM in short, on a yearly basis. Every year, one IIT partakes the responsibility for this exam, this year it is IIT Bombay. Today the institute announced important dates of JAM 2018.
JAM 2018 will be held on February 11, 2018 (Sunday) in two sessions: I from 9 am to 12 noon for biotechnology, chemistry, geology, mathematical statistics; and II from 2 pm to 5 pm for biological sciences, mathematics, and physics. The option to select subject of exam will be given in the application form of JAM 2018. Candidate must carefully exercise option on basis of interest and eligibility.
JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) will become live in September. Candidates can start applying from September 5, 2017. Applications are being released on dates that were expected and given tentatively by education experts earlier this year. JAM exam notification has been made on time by the authorities. Students can carry out preparation and revision as they had planned.
Registration last date has been announced as October 10, 2017. So we see that there is a window of more than one month in which candidates can apply. Despite that, there is bound to be a last minute rush; every year it is observed that maximum candidates apply last moment. This is advised against; last minute form filling creates chaos and you may end up filling wrong details in form so avoid that.
The date for admit card issue is not mentioned in important dates of JAM 2018. However it is expected that admit card will be issued a comfortable time period prior to exam. Candidates can expect the hall ticket to be available in January.
As already mentioned above, JAM 2018 exam date is February 11, 2018. This is the second Sunday in the month of February 2018. The exam will be held as computer based test. Candidates will be able to take it on assigned systems at test centers. Test center assigned will be conveyed through admit card (candidate can select preferred test cities at time of applying).
Another date that is missing from important dates table is the date for release of JAM 2018 answer keys. Usually the answer keys come a little while before result. The same is expected to happen this time also.
A key date is that of JAM result 2018 declaration. IIT Bombay will announce result of JAM 2018 on March 20, 2018. Anyone who will have taken the exam can check their result at jam.iitb.ac.in from that date onwards.
To get admission also a separate application form will have to be filled which will be available from April 3-17, 2018. In the same month a facility will be given to request for change in category untilApril 17, 2018.
First admission list will come on May 22, 2018, followed by second admission list on June 12, 2018, and third admission list on June 29, 2018. Admission through JAM 2018 will close on July 5, 2018.
Candidates may please also note that IITs and IISc conduct admission through JAM 2018 by following norms laid down by IITs and IISc. There is another admission process through CCMN (Centralized Counselling for M.Sc / M.Sc Tech) which is for NITs and CFTIs. So apart from appearing in JAM, you need also be aware of admission processes in colleges you wish to get admission in.
