The Indian Army is inviting defence aspirants across the nation to apply for its Short Service Commission. ‘SSC Tech 54 Men 25 Women’ is the latest short service commission notification published by the armed forces, for which, applications can be filled from now to until August 22.
SSC Tech is the entry scheme for engineering graduates to enter Indian Army on a short service commission basis. Herein, they get to serve for ten years, and later it can either be extended to fourteen years, or be converted to a permanent commission.
SSC Tech 54 25 Women refers to the 54th Short Service Commission batch of men, 25th Short Service Commission batch of women for April 2020 intake. There are 175 vacancies for men, and 14 for women. In addition, there are 2 vacancies for widows of defence personnel.
Engineering graduates, candidates completing graduation (one who will be able to submit engineering degree documents by 1 Apr 2020) from relevant engineering streams can apply. The age limit for this entry is 20-27 years as on 1 Apr 2020, that is, those born between 2 Apr 1993 and 1 Apr 2000 can apply. The upper age limit is 35 years for widows of Defense personnel.

The website requires a one time registration. After which, those who have registered can see all available applications within the dashboard, and apply for those they are eligible for. There is no application fee to apply for SSC Tech.

There are two links, one is Short Service Commission Technical Men – 54, and the other is Short Service Commission Technical Women – 25. Both lead to same notification, since the details for have been published via single notification only.
Selection for SSC Tech involves two things. First, candidates apply and are shortlisted on the basis of their marks in qualifying exam. Those who are shortlisted get an email about SSB center allocation and then they have to select SSB dates from the website. Next, they have to undergo a five day SSB selection process that comprises of verbal and non-verbal test, PPDT, TAT, WAT, SRT, SD, GTO, personal interview, conference.
The selected candidates will undergo training at Officer’s Training Academy, Chennai. The duration of the training program is 49 weeks. Cadets cannot marry or stay with guardians in this duration. The entire cost of training is under government expense. In case if the candidates leave the training and leave the session in between, then they are liable to refund the cost of training @ 11,067/- per week till September 2019, thereafter a yearly escalation of 8% p.a. will be calculated on the per capital cost of training for the ensuing year.
