Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is an all India examination that intends to tests the comprehensive understanding of the students in various engineering courses. This examination is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras and IIT Roorkee).

The score of GATE is used for admissions to post-graduate programmes (eg. M.E., M.Tech., direct PhD) in Indian Higher education institutes with financial assistance provided by MHRD. Also, various PSUs accept GATE score for recruitment purpose. In addition to that, GATE 2019 scores remain valid for a period of 3 years.

There is no age limit to be able to appear in GATE 2019. In a nutshell, graduates from engineering and science backgrounds can appear in GATE as long as they fulfil other eligibility criteria like the year of passing the qualifying examination. The examination is conducted online and across the nation, also in a few cities outside India.
