HCS Exam Date 2021 Announced

IIT Kharagpur in West Bengal is going to conduct the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering in 2022. GATE 2021 is already over and the counselling process has commenced. It was conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay and IIT B has already handed over the authority of conducting the exam in 2022 to the IIT Kharagpur.

The GATE exam is conducted for admission to M.Tech and/or recruitment in leading PSUs on the basis of GATE score. Each year, a different IIT conducts the GATE exam. As per reports, the toughest GATE question paper is set by the Indian Institute of Technology in Bangalore. However, with IIT KGP set to conduct the upcoming GATE exam in 2022, students are inquisitive about the level of difficulty of the exam.

Looking at the past record of conducting the GATE exam, IIT Kharagpur conducted the GATE exam for the last time in 2014. Prior to that, the Institute conducted the GATE exam in 2006, 2000, 1994 and 1988. The last time the Institute conducted the GATE exam i.e. in 2014, post exam analysis indicated that the overall level of difficulty of the paper was above moderate. In addition, as per reports, the difficulty level of the paper was changed across different sessions of the exam as well.

Existing post-exam analysis of the question paper of the last GATE exam conducted by IIT Kharagpur indicates that more than half of the questions were of numerical type. Therefore, candidates can expect the GATE 2022 paper to consist of numerical in adequate numbers. Candidates who took the exam in 2014 reportedly said that solving the question paper required in depth knowledge of concepts and an analytical approach toward problem solving. It is evident that a memory-based study strategy is just not enough the crack the GATE exam.

The student’s reaction to the GATE 2014 question paper set by IIT Kharagpur was inclined toward more than moderate difficulty level as per existing reports. Besides the fact that most of the questions were of the numerical type, candidates also reported that solving the numerical problems was time-consuming. Certain candidates were not able to attempt the entire paper just because they invested too much time in long calculations and answering numerical type questions.

Based on such analysis of the past GATE exam conducted by the IIT Kharagpur, it can be concluded that the GATE 2022 paper will definitely not be easy. Candidates are advised to focus on developing a clear understanding of concepts & their implementation. Extensive practice, mental calculation and solving mock tests are also recommended for efficient time management during the exam.
