IIM Calcutta Releases CAT 2018 Exam Day Instructions, Rules & Other Details

The CAT 2018 Exam is scheduled to be held on November 25, 2018. The exam will be conducted in 374 test centres and across 147 cities in India. The exam will be held in 2 shifts. The first shift is the morning shift – 9:00 AM – 12:00 noon and the afternoon shift – 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM.

Approximately 2.41 lakh candidates have applied successfully for the CAT 2018 exam. Recently, IIM Calcutta, the conducting body of CAT 2018, has released the exam day rules and instructions for all the participating candidates of CAT 2018. The instructions are available in the form of a PDF file and an animated video on the website of CAT 2018.

As per the instructions released, candidates are advised to report at 7:30 AM for the morning shift exam and at 1:00 PM for the afternoon shift. That means candidates are instructed to be present at the exam center 1.5 hours before the start of the exam. Candidates will not be allowed inside the test centre after 8:45 AM in the morning session and for the afternoon session candidates will not be allowed in after 2:15 PM.

Downloading The Admit Card

The most important thing to note is the CAT 2018 Admit Card is mandatory to enter the exam center. The candidates have to download the admit card from the official website, take a print out of the same and affix their photo which must be same as uploaded in application form and bring to the test centre along with an original identity proof. The admit card is available on the website until November 25, 2018.

The instructions on the Admit Card are important. It will contain the exam center name and address. There will a reference number in the admit card, it must be used only for identifying the Exam Lab / Console in the Test Center on the Exam Day.

The PwD candidates with scribe are also instructed to carry a scribe affidavit along with themselves at the test centre.

Frisking At The Centre

As per the instruction video, once a candidates enter the CAT 2018 exam centre, the first thing will be that there admit card will be scrutinized. The notice board on the test centre will have the reference numbers listed to locate the exam room. next, the frisking will be also done at the exam centre. Thus, candidates are instructed nit to carry any restricted items at the centre.

Candidates cannot carry purse, watches, bags, jackets, jewellery, mobile phones, electronic gadgets, stationary items, food items, books etc inside the exam centre. Candidates are advised not to wear any item that has metal element in it. However, socks, plain pullovers, sweaters, cardigans (without any pockets) are allowed inside the centre.

Verification And Registration At The Centre

After the frisking is done, the admit card and identity card will be again verified. Only after the verification is successful candidates can move inside their test labs. Once the candidates enter the test lab, candidates can not leave it unless the exam is over. Candidates have to remove their footwear outside the test lab.

After the frisking is done, candidates will be asked to register themselves in the registration desk, Here the left hand thumb impression and their photograph will be captured. The candidates have to sign the attendance sheet too.

Inside the labs the candidates will be also provided a rough sheet and pen. candidates will be allocated their systems that will their name and photograph appearing the systems’s screen. Check the details and ensure that they are correct. The candidates will then have to login to their systems when instructed by the invigilators.
