Hon’ble Supreme Court has started hearing on a plea seeking directions for an opt-out option, extra attempt, and increased examination centers for the upcoming July session of CA exams 2021. The plea is being heard by a three judges bench of the Supreme Court led by Justice AM Khanwilkar, Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice Aniruddha Bose, today at 10:30 AM (delayed due to court proceedings).
The Apex court is hearing the plea seeking postponement of ICAI CA 2021 exams on Monday, June 28. The plea filed by Advocate Anubha Shrivastava Sahai seeks clarity over the opt-out scheme and extra attempts for old course students. It further seeks postponement of exams for the CA students appearing for CA Foundation, Intermediate, and Final exams. The ICAI has scheduled to conduct CA exams, starting from 5 July.
Students are demanding vaccination of all CA students before the offline exams. Citing the decision taken by the Institute last year, when exams were postponed for safety reasons, students have reached out to the top court.
Meanwhile, more than 6,000 students have reached out to PM Office seeking relief. Students asked PMO to intervene and asks ICAI to either postpone the July session exams or provide an additional attempt, considering the ongoing situation in the country.
According to the sources familiar with the development, if the authorities cannot ensure adherence to the COVID-19 guidelines, the exams scheduled from July 5 can be postponed to a later period when the COVID-19 situation normalizes. ICAI on the other hand has released guidelines for the Opt-out scheme for the students affected due to COVID 19.
While CA Final exams will begin from 5 July, followed by foundation exams from July 24, and CA Inter exams to take place from 6 to 20 July. Admit cards for CA July exams have recently been issued at the official website of ICAI – icai.org.
