The quality and the quantity of medical treatment is one of the primary need for a nation. Also, it seems like one of the most primary concern as well. Within a year, the Indian government has received 77 proposals to set up medical colleges in India. In the year 2019-20, the Government has received 77 such proposals. In the year 2017-18, the center had received a total of 88 proposals and in the year of 2018-19, the total number of proposals received was 85.
The proposal to set up the medical institutes in the nation have come maximum for the state of Uttar Pradesh. There are proposals of 12 medical institute for UP. Followed by 8 proposals for the state of Tamil Nadu, and 7 for the state of Madhya Pradesh. Next, there are 6 proposals, each for the state of West Bengal and Telangana.
The state of Jammu and Kashmir has 5 proposals for medical institutes. The states of Bihar, Gujarat, and Jharkhand has 4 proposals each. There are 3 proposals for the state of Rajasthan and there are 2 proposals each for the states of Haryana, Karnataka, Kerela, and Punjab.
For the states of Assam, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, and Dadar & Nagar Haveli there is 1 proposal each. However, there are certain states that have not received any proposal as of now, this year. These states are – Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Tripura, Puducherry, and Andaman & Nicobar Island.
There are many states that have not received a single proposal of setting up medical institutes since 2017. These states are Delhi, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Puducherry and the Andaman & Nicobar Island.
On the other hand, the states of Punjab, Sikkim and the UT Dadar and Nagar Haveli have received their first ever proposal of setting up of the medical colleges this year since 2017.
According to MCI, there are 8070 Medical institutes in the nation that are teaching UG, PG and dioctoral courses. These 8070 medical colleges are providing 1,06,494 seats across the nation. The candidates who wish to study medicine in their future they need to clear the national level medical entrance exam like the NEET, JIPMER, AIIMS, etc.
In addition to that, there are Hospitals in almost in every state of the nation that provides internships to the medical students. There are 30 Internship Hospitals in the state of Andhra Pradesh, 1 in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, 27 in the state of Assam, 29 in Bihar, 21 in Delhi, state of Gujarat has 49 internship hospitals, Himachal Pradesh has 6, 20 in the state of Kerela, 45 in Madhya Pradesh, 74 in the state of Maharashtra, 40 in the state of Tamil Nadu, 62 in the state of Karnataka, 17 in the state of Odisha, 42 in the states of Punjab and Haryana, 2 in Jammu and Kashmir, 1 in the state of Manipur, 1 in the state of Nagaland, 62 in the state of Rajasthan, 1 in the state of Tripura, 72 in the state of Uttar Pradesh, 33 in West Bengal, 1 each in Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
There are 15 Military Hospitals and 27 Railway Hospitals in the nation that offer internships.
