IIT Delhi has opened the GATE 2020 online application form again, but only for candidates from Jammu and Kashmir. Such candidates from the state who wish to appear in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2020, but could not apply before, can now avail the opportunity and submit their applications by November 8, 2019.
To announce that the registrations have been re-opened, IITD has run a single line message saying “Attention J&K candidates: The application portal is open for candidates from J&K from 29th October to 8th November. Click here to Register/Login.” at gate.iitd.ac.in. The link leads to the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS).
However, there is a slight difference. GOAPS is hosted at appsgate.iitd.ac.in. However this link now leads to a new page that has the url 180.179.227.141, so it is not the same GOAPS as for other candidates. If you visit GOAPS directly, then you will not get a new user? register here link. But you will get that on the new page.
Therefore, candidates from JnK who wish to apply should first go to gate.iitd.ac.in and then click on the link with the message. You cannot apply by visiting GOAPS directly.
As there is no separate notification about the event, it is expected that the rest of the processes for application. While trying to register it shows the application fee to be same as before. The original fee amount was Rs 750 for SC, ST, PwD, transgender, female candidates, and Rs 1500 for general and OBC candidates.
In the application form available for the J&K candidates, only 3 exam centers are available for appearing in the exam. These exam centers are Srinagar, Jammu-Samba, and New Delhi. The application process is the same with no changes.
The J&K candidates need to register using their name, mobile number, email id, country of residence and password of choice. On successful registration, OTP and enrollment ID is sent to the registered email id and password. Using the registered email/enrollment ID and password, candidates need to login and complete the online form.
The online form filling process includes entering GATE paper choice, choice of 3 exam center in order of preference, filling personal details and address, providing qualifying exam details and uploading necessary documents.
The eligibility documents that the candidates have to upload in the application form can be any one of degree certificate/provisional passing certificate, course completion certificate, consolidated mark sheet/final year marksheet and those who have not completed undergraduate studies need to upload eligibility certificate in the prescribed format available with the application form. The candidates of the reserved category have to upload reservation certificates as required.
The scanned images of signature and photograph must be of JPG/JPEG format and the documents must be of PDF format. The size of the scanned photo must be between 5 KB and 200 KB and the scanned signature must be between 5 KB and 200 KB. The size of the eligibility document must range between 10 KB and 500 KB and for any caste certificate the size must be between 10 KB and 300 KB.
Admit cards for all candidates will be issued together, on January 3, 2020. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2020 will be held on February 1, 2, 8, and 9, 2020. There will be conducted for 25 papers. The exam will be held in CBT mode and across India and Abroad. 65 multiple choice type (MCQ) and numerical answer type (NAT) questions will be asked in each paper of GATE of total 100 marks. The exam will be of 3 hours duration.
The marking scheme of the exam is such that there will be questions carrying 1 marks and 2 marks. Against the 1 marks question, negative marking of 1/3 will be done for any wrong answer and against the 2 marks question, negative marking of 2/3 marks will be done.
