GATE 2020

Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) will accept Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2020 application form with the normal fee amount until today, that is September 28, 2019. After that until October 1, 2019, candidates can apply with a higher fee amount. The three days in which higher fee will apply will be known as the extended period.

GATE 2020 login page, at the GOAPS (appsgate.iitd.ac.in) is working fine now. Server errors and other technical issues that were hampering candidates from applying online seem to have been solved.

As regards to GATE 2020 application form correction, details remain unclear. There are a few conflicting pieces of information on the official website.

One of the FAQs at gate.iitd.ac.in reads “After completing the ONLINE application process and generating a PDF file, will I be able to change my application data?”. To which, the answer given is “NO. After completing all the steps upto PDF application form generation in the ONLINE application process, you can only download the application form and CANNOT modify the data. Hence, you need to be very careful while entering the data.”. Which means that there will not be any application form correction.

However another FAQ says “I applied for GATE 2020 there is a mistake in my application (name or college name or city or DOB or Mobile no or email id or document). So I want to edit. How to edit it?”. Answer to that they have given is “We have intimated the data correction time window on GATE 2020 website”. Which means that IITD will allow corrections in name, college, city, date of birth, mobile, email ID, document.

So there are two different indications from the FAQs page. Further another FAQ talks about changing GATE paper. As per which, IITD has mentioned, that candidates can submit request of changing their subject against a fee payment. Dates for requesting exam paper will be announced on the website.

There is one correction for which confirmed details are available, that is for changing the examination city. It has been clearly mentioned that candidates can submit request for changing examination city until November 15, 2019.

Last time, application form correction was allowed in GATE exam. There were three separate notifications – one was to edit name, DOB, parent name, degree; second was to edit gender, category, PWD; and third was to change exam center.

At the moment application form submissions are going on, and actual details on correction are expected after that. Initially it was expected that the last date for extended period will also be changed because the deadline for normal fee period was extended by four days. However the important dates section on gate.iitd.ac.in shows the date to be the same as before.

GATE 2020 will be held on February 1, 2, 8, and 9, 2020. The admit cards for the exam will be released on January 3, 2020. Through this exam, around 8-10 lakh candidates will compete for ME, M.Tech, M.Arch, Int PhD seats in IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other engineering colleges. Many will also seek out jobs in PSUs through it.
