“Because of heavy traffic load in the GATE application portal, the last date for payment of fees (regular period) is extended up to 26th September.”, reads the latest notice on GATE 2020 website, gate.iitd.ac.in.
The last date to apply for Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering without late fee was supposed to be today. However, candidates have been facing issues with the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) site going down, showing server error, the deadline with regular fees has now been extended by two days by GATE 2020 organizing institute IIT Delhi.
Until today morning the GOAPS website at appsgate.iitd.ac.in was showing the error message “This site can’t be reached; appsgate.iitd.ac.in took too long to respond”. In the last one hour the error message is no longer showing, but the site is also not opening at once.
The only way to apply for GATE 2020 is to register at appsgate.iitd.ac.in and submit the form there. With this page only not working, aspirants across the nation are flustered. Many have complained that even when the page loads, it is not showing the captcha code, without entering which, one is unable to proceed to login. Where the captcha code is supposed to be, this error message is being displayed “error while loading the captcha, please clear the browser cache and refresh this page!”
While for the captcha code issue candidates can try to clear browser cache and then try again. For the other issues like site not working, error 503, they are purely server side problems which only the administrators can resolve. With the deadline for application form filling approaching, the traffic on website is only expected to increase. However candidates can attempt to register at late night hours when server load is usually less.
Candidates need to note that the GATE 2020 application fees in regular period is Rs 750 for females, SC, ST, PWD, and Rs 1500 for others in Indian centres. It is USD 50 for Addis Ababa, Colombo, Dhaka and Kathmandu, and USC 100 for Dubai, Singapore.
In the extended period – extended period is basically the next few days when form will be open but fee will be different – the fee will be Rs 1250 for females, SC, ST, PWD, and Rs 2000 for others. For outside India, it will be USD 70 for Addis Ababa, Colombo, Dhaka and Kathmandu, and USD 120 for Dubai, Singapore.
GATE 2020 is scheduled to be held in different slots of the four dates, 1st February, 2nd February, 8th February and 9th February. The postgraduate level engineering examination is being administered by IIT Delhi this year, where the engineering graduates are shortlisted for admissions to PG programme in Engineering on offer at IITs, IISc Bangalore, NITs and IIEST. Further, the GATE scores are also considered for recruitment in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for a number of positions including Graduate Trainees. The result will be announced on 16th March, following which PSUs will open their recruitment application forms.
