GATE 2020 last date to fill application form with normal fees has once again been extended. The new deadline is September 28. First, the last date to apply was September 24. Then it was extended to September 26. And now this is the second change in schedule.
The underlying problem is the plethora of server issues haunting the GATE 2020 login. Whereas the official website of the exam gate.iitd.ac.in is working fine, the GOAPS login at appsgate.iitd.ac.in is facing problems. Sometimes candidates come across 504 gateway timeout, at other times 503. And sometimes the page does not load at all.
Although September 24 was only supposed to be the last date to apply without late fee and candidates could apply even after that from September 25 to October 1 with higher fees. However students sent several complaints to the organizing body IIT Delhi demanding date extension because, they said, they are not intentionally applying late; they are being forced to apply late as the site is simply not working they said.
Hearing concerns from various quarters the organization has now stretched the form filling window with normal fees by four days. It is important to note that they have not published any revised schedule for the exam related events, which brings us to the question – what about the window to apply with higher fees?
You see, initially the plan was that candidates could apply from September 3 (the day registrations opened) to September 24 with a certain fee amount. Then the next window from September 25 to October 1 was termed as ‘extended’ period where candidates could apply with higher fee. As no new schedule is out, it is expected that the ‘extended’ period will still be applicable.
If the extended period is still applicable then technically students will get September 29 to October 1 time window to apply with the higher fee amount, and this will be the new extended window. However candidates are enquiring that because the normal window was stretched, then will the same be done for the extended window?
With the GATE login working relatively better than yesterday (at least some students have reported that they were now able to apply), any more changes in application form filling deadline seem slim. Academic circles therefore recommend GATE 2020 aspirants to not wait for any more deadline changes and apply at the earliest; it has been further recommended to try and fill the GATE 2020 application form at night as server issues are least then.
Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is held on yearly basis by IITs and IISc for admissions to ME, M.Tech, M.Arch programs, and PSU recruitments. This year the organizing body is Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD). Once applications are accepted, admit cards will be issued on November 15. The exam will be held on four dates – February 1, 2020, February 2, 2020, February 8, 2020, February 9, 2020 for 25 subject papers.
