Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IITD) has notified, Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2020 corrections in exam city, paper, category, and gender will be available soon. At the moment, correction window for minor changes in the fields of name, father’s name, college name is open.
There are two latest notices on the official website of GATE 2020, that is gate.iitd.ac.in. First one says “for change in exam city, exam paper, category and gender, web portal will be open in due course”. The second one says “candidates please note that window for minor corrections (name, father’s name, college name etc.) is live”. Organizing institute has not specified deadlines for either of the correction windows.
To do any of the processes – that is to correct minor details which can be done now, or to edit other details for which window will open soon – one has to go to the GATE 2020 login, or GOAPS. GOAPS stands for GATE online application processing system. It is the web portal appsgate.iitd.ac.in, where applicants can login with enrollment ID / email address, password.
GATE 2020 application form corrections for few details are without any fees. However for changing examination paper, examination city will require fee payment.
The last dates to request changes in category is November 4, 2019. And deadline to request changes in examination city is November 15, 2019. Start dates for both the processes are not available.
GATE 2020 exam date branch wise is being enquired about a lot ever since registration closed. In this regard, IITD has not specified exactly when the schedule will be announced. However it is expected to be available in December. Last year it was announced on Christmas, December 25.
Last year, the exam was held on four dates. Each date had two sessions. The sessions were numbered as S1, S2, S3, S4, S5, S6, S7, S8. So S1 and S2 were on day 1, S3 and S4 on day 2, S5 and S6 on day 3, and S7 and S8 on day 4. In S1, exams were held for CY, ME-1, MN. Then in S2, papers for ME-2, XE, XL, TF were conducted. S3 was for CS, CH papers. And papers of AE, AG, AR, BT, EY, GG, IN, MA, MT, PE, PH, PI, ST were held in S4. EC was held in S5. EE in S6. CE-1 in S7. and CE-2 in S8.
This year also there are four exam dates February 1, 2, 8 and 9, 2020. A similar schedule in the sense that there will be shifts in each day, is expected. However which paper will be held in which shift will be decided by IITD on the basis of number of applicants in each exam. The same will be published at gate.iitd.ac.in and appsgate.iitd.ac.in.
GATE 2020 is the national level entrance exam for ME / M.Tech, M.Arch, integrated PhD. It is also used for PSU recruitment. 8,58,030 candidates have applied. The number of applicants is 68,970 less than last time. Applications received zone wise are 1,73,965 in IIT Bombay (zone), 1,31,287 in IISC Bangalore, 1,30,522 in IIT Delhi, 1,18,951 in IIT Madras, 1,14,794 in IIT Kharagpur, 73,618 in IIT Kanpur, 62,340 in IIT Roorkee, 52,553 in IIT Guwahati.
