The University of Delhi has notified to offer an integrated course in Journalism Bachelor of Journalism (BJ) Master of Journalism (MJ). This is a great news for the students who want to pursue a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Journalism from a government University. The University of Delhi will complete 100 years of establishment in the year 2022. The University is hoping that the grand event of completion of 100 years shall be covered by the graduate students from the Delhi School of Journalism.

The Programme will be taught in two mediums that are offering instructions in both English and Hindi as applicable. The 5-year integrated programme of Journalism shall include four foreign languages (French, Spanish, Chinese and Arabic) and two regional languages (Tamil and Bengali) in ten semesters. The students who apply online for this course have to select one foreign language and one regional language. As per the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines,  the programme has 28 Core Courses, two Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses, two Ability Enhancement Elective Courses (skill based), four General Elective Courses and four Discipline Specific Elective Courses and Dissertation.

The course weightage of Five years integrated Journalism course will be based on the Classroom Lectures (50% Credits and Assignments/Projects and Internship (50% Credits). The students have to make prescribed projects such as documentaries, news Bulletins etc in their academic course. The students will be admitted in this course through the entrance examination of a national level.

The students will only be eligible for the 5 years integrated Journalism course if they qualify the national level entrance examination conducted by the University of Delhi. The students must have obtained at least 50% aggregate marks in class 12th board examination from a recognised school to appear in the entrance examination. Through the examination, the students will be examined on the basis of their General Knowledge, Current Affairs and Analytical and Comprehension Skills. All the questions in the competitive examination will be asked with the comparable standard of competitive exams at the national level for Class 12th  students. The students can also take admission directly to the Post Graduate Programme by clearing the entrance examination for the same.

If in case candidates who are admitted in the 5 years integrated course of Journalism and want to leave the course in after completing the Bachelor’s of Journalism then the vacant seats will be filled by the new students who want to apply an entrance test for the Post Graduation course. The minimum requirement for the post Graduate Degree will be the Undergraduate degree obtained by the student from a recognised University. There are total 60 seats in English and 60 in Hindi.

The admission for the 5-year integrated programme of Journalism of Delhi University will start from Wednesday, August 23, 2017. Candidates need to fill the registration form with all the required details and have to pay the registration fee of Rs. 500/- and submit it along with the registration form. The students will be able to register themselves until Friday, September 8, 2017. The entrance examination for the admission in the prescribed course will be held on September 17, 2017. The classes in the University shall commence from September 26, 2017, in CIC Building in the Sports Complex in North Campus.
