It has come to light that standing order number 208/2019 on direct recruitment of constable driver, males, in Delhi Police has been published. Images of the order have been circulated on social media, and it starts by saying, “this standing order deals with the direct recruitment of constable (driver) / dispatch rider in Delhi Police in accordance with rule 17A (XX) of the Delhi Police ”.

There have been whispers among the government job seekers circles that Delhi Police will soon release notification for 5,000 vacancies of constable post. Another image circulated on social media showed that the department has 3,500 vacancies of constable male, 1,743 for constable female. Other constable vacancies mentioned in it were 896 for driver, 57 for photographer, 43 for workshop hand, 29 for dog handler, 21 for bandsmen, 125 for motor technician, and 4 for bugler.

Although these reports, on constable recruitment in Delhi Police, have been around for over a month, there was no update on it officially. However this standing order available today throws some light on how the recruitment process will happen for constable drivers.
Candidates from all states will be eligible to apply. Application fee will be Rs 100. There will be a trade test of 150 marks, only qualifying in nature. There will be three components to the trade test – light motor vehicle driving for 50 marks, heavy motor vehicle driving for 50 marks, and knowledge of traffic signs, road sense, basic driving rules like lane driving, overtaking procedure, road map reading, assessment of shortest possible route for 25 marks. Qualifying marks of these components will respectively be 25 marks, 25 marks, and 12.5 marks.
Delhi Police will invite class 12 pass candidates to apply for the constable driver post. Age limit will be 21 to 30 years. Age relaxation will be applicable as per govt norms.
There will be a written test in computer based test format for the recruitment. The standing orders inform that it will have multiple choice questions, and no negative marking. Test will have four parts namely A, B, C, and D. Part A will be on general awareness with 20 questions of 20 marks. Part B will be general intelligence with 20 questions of 20 marks. Then part C will be numerical ability with 10 questions of 10 marks. Fourth section, part D will have 50 questions of 50 marks on road sense, vehicle maintenance, traffic rules, signals, vehicle and environmental pollution that is petrol and diesel vehicle, CNG operated vehicle, noise pollution.
Delhi Police will also conduct physical endurance test, qualifying in nature. There will be a 1600 metres race, long jump, and high jump. Candidates up to 30 years of age, between 30 to 40 years, and above 40 years will respectively have to complete the race in 7 minutes, 8 minutes, 9 minutes. Likewise their respective long jump will be 12.5 feet, 11.5 feet, 10.5 feet. High jump parameters will respectively be 3.5 feet, 3.25 feet, 3 feet. Only those who qualify race will partake in the other tests.
Thus overall the recruitment process will have computer based test of 100 marks, physical endurance and measurement tests to qualify, and trade test to qualify.
