Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited (CPCL) has published a recruitment notification today, in leading dailies. The print advertisement is numbered advt no 2 of 2019 – CPCL/HRD:03:056/055 dated 13.11.2019.
Through the CPCL recruitment notification 2019, the corporation invites applications against recruitment of deputy company secretary group A, and workmen group C. There is 1 vacancy for the former, and 55 for the latter.
The group C posts are junior engineer assistant, junior quality control analyst, junior technical assistant, junior materials assistant, junior marketing assistant, junior accounts assistant, and junior nursing assistant. There are a total 16 types of posts.
Between categories, the vacancies are divided into 29 for UR, 7 for OBC, 5 for SC, 4 for EWS.
Going post wise, the vacancies are as follows.
There are 14 vacancies for junior engineering assistant production, 8 for junior engineering assistant production trainee, 1 for junior quality control analyst. Then there are 3vacancies for junior engineering assistant mechanical, 1 for junior engineering assistant mechanical trainee, 3 for junior engineering assistant electrical. For junior engineering assistant instrumentation there are 3 vacancies, and 1 for junior engineering assistant instrumentation trainee. There is 1 vacancy for junior engineering assistant P&U mechanical.
For junior technical assistant F&S, there are 9 vacancies, and 4 for junior technical assistant F&S trainee. Then there is 1 vacancy for junior materials assistant purchase and storage, 3 for junior marketing assistant marketing, 1 for junior marketing assistant marketing trainee, 1 for junior accounts assistant trainee, and 1 for junior nursing assistant.

A number of higher positions in CPCL are filled through the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB). However the role of the body has been slowly tapered off wherein more and more autonomy has been directly given to the public sector undertakings to organize their own recruitment drives.
The total manpower of CPCL is more than 1709. This includes 832 supervisors and 877 non supervisors. Employees of the organization are classified into group A managerial / executive roles, group B supervisory posts, then group C workmen / clerical level, group D
are semi-skilled or unskilled excluding sweepers, and then there more in group D as sweepers.
Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited was formerly the Madras Refineries Limited. It is a group company of the Indian Oil Corporation (IOCL). National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) also has a shareholding in the corporation, for the wax and petrochemical feedstock production facilities.
There are two refineries under CPCL. One is in Chennai and the other is in Nagapattnam. The total capacity of the two is 11.5 million tonnes per annum. Besides, neighboring industries in Manali get supply feedstock from CPCL, that acts as the mother industry. The corporation has taken steps towards development of renewable energy and conservation of resources by constructing wind farms, sewage reclamation, and seawater desalination plants.
