More than 150 colleges of Karnataka have formed Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering College Association. Also called as KUPECA, it has bestowed Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) with the responsibility to fill UG seats. The single entrance test conducted by the Consortium is called COMEDK UGET and is open to the candidates from and outside the state.
Recently, the COMEDK has announced the exam date for Undergraduate Entrance Test. COMEDK UGET 2018 will be held on May 13, 2018. The exam will be conducted at national level and the candidates aspiring to pursue UG Engineering course may appear for it.
The entrance examination will be held in Computer Based mode. The questions in the examination will be asked from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects. The questions are expected to be multiple choice type and if the previous year exam pattern is followed then negative marking will not be applicable. Last year, total 180 MCQs were asked in the examination and candidates had 3 hours to attempt it.
COMEDK has always emphasized that the candidates should check the eligibility criteria before applying. Candidates planning to appear for UG Engineering admission through COMEDK need to ensure that they have qualified PUC / 10+2 / Higher Secondary / equivalent from the State or Central Govt. recognized Board. Other than this, the candidates should have studied Physics, Chemistry / Bio Technology / Biology, Mathematics, and the English Language as core subjects in the last two years of schooling.
Consortium has made it clear that Diploma Holders are not eligible for the engineering entrance exam. The General candidate must have passed the qualifying examination with more than 45% marks. However, SC, ST, and OBC candidate, belonging to the state of Karnataka, are getting relaxation of 5% and only need secure 40% marks. All the applicants should have also qualified each of the subject as well.
On the other hand, candidates seeking admission in Architecture colleges of Karnataka will have to appear and qualify National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA). B.Arch aspirants will have to apply separately for NATA 2018 and COMEDK 2018.
The aspiring Architects also need to qualify 10+2 / PSU / equivalent but only need Mathematics as one of the core subjects. Unlike B.E admission, qualifying candidates of 10+3 Diploma can apply for B.Arch admission but the Diploma should be recognized by Central or State Govt.
The minimum marks required to get admission in UG Architecture courses is 50% for General category and 45% for the SC, ST, and OBC candidates of Karnataka. It is to be noted that the candidates who will appear for the qualifying examination in 2018 can also apply. However, they need to ensure that all the criteria for eligibility are satisfied before the prescribed deadline.
The application form for COMEDK 2018 is expected to release in the month of February 2018. The Consortium will release it online, on www.comedk.org. Candidate will have to first register and then submit the details in the application form. Candidates will also have to upload images, select Test Center, and remit application fee to successfully conclude the application process.
