Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission (CGPSC) has released the much-awaited notification for State Service Examination 2018.
Whereas officially the recruitment is known as State Service Examination, candidates refer to it simply as CGPSC Pre and CGPSC Mains. This exam is equivalent to the civil services / IAS exam conducted by UPSC. Thus it goes without saying that all government job aspirants in Chhattisgarh must have been eagerly waiting for this notification.
CGPSC Pre exam is scheduled to be held on Feb 17, 2019, from 10 AM to 12 noon, and 3 PM to 5 PM. Those who clear the preliminary exam will then be eligible to attend CGPSC Main exam on Jun 21, 22, 23, 24, 2019. Mains exam will be followed by interviews. Read complete notification.
But before all that, one has to apply first. The application forms will be available online from Dec 07, 2018. Candidates will be able to apply online until Jan 05, 2019. Whereas the form will open at 12 noon on the assigned date, it will close at 11:59 PM on last date. It is strictly advised to all aspirants to apply on time and with requisite fees. Online form will be available at psc.cg.gov.in.
The commission shall give candidates a chance to edit mistakes in form from Jan 08 to 14, 2019.
The number of vacancies in CGPSC 2018 state services are 160.
CGPSC shall organize pre exam in 16 cities in Chhattisgarh. They are, Ambikapur, Baikunthpur, Bilaspur, Dhamatri, Durg-Bhilai, Dantewada, Jagdalpur, Janjgir – chapa, Jashpur, Kabirdham, Kanker, Korba, Mahasamund, Raipur, Rajnandgaon.
Mains exam, on the other hand, shall be held at 5 cities namely Ambikapur, Bilaspur, Durg-Bhilai, Jagdalpur, Raipur.
Candidates must check eligibility criteria regarding age, physical measurements, and educational qualification, before applying. The CGPSC 2018 notification elaborates upon all the relevant points. It is the responsibility of candidates to check eligibility first and then apply. Any candidate found to be ineligible at a later stage shall be rejected.
It is necessary to be a graduate, degree in any course is allowed. Applicant should be at least 21 years old. Also, upper age limit is fixed at 30 years. Both ages are calculated against first January of year of advertisement. However there is suitable age relaxation for various categories of candidates as elaborated in the CGPSC 2018 notification.
The State Services Examination is a combined competitive exam for 40 posts in civil services. They are class II and III posts.
CGPSC Preliminary Examination 2018 (scheduled to be held on Feb 17, 2019) shall be an objective type paper. There will be 2 compulsory papers of 2 hours duration each. First paper shall be of General Studies (GS) of 100 questions, 200 marks. There will be 5 options in every question with single correct answer. Negative marking will be 1/3rd of marks allotted to question.
Second paper in CGPSC 2018 preliminary exam will be Aptitude Test. It will have 100 questions of 200 marks. Here also there will be negative marking at same rate.
Candidates need to be obtain 33% marks (23% for reserved category, handicapped candidates) in each paper. Further, second paper shall only be qualifying in nature. Only marks of first paper shall be used to determine merit for shortlisting for main exam.
CGPSC shall publish details of main examination scheme and interview later on. However, complete syllabus is given for prelims exam in the CGPSC 2018 notification.
Candidates are requested to note that CGPSC (Chhattisgarh Public Service Commission) is the name of the board / body that organizes various recruitment in the state. SSE (State Service Examination) is the competitive exam for civil services recruitment. However many candidates simply refer CGPSC SSE to as CGPSC. Therefore wherever CGPSC 2018 is referred, it is the SSE or IAS level recruitment exam by CGPSC only.
