CBSE will hold board exams for classes 10 and 12 for academic session 2017, in March 2018. Complete time table will be released in January. It will be widely publicized in newspapers and official website cbse.nic.in. Close to 3 million students in India will be writing board exams under Central Board of Secondary Education. There is a 60:40 ratio of boys and girls.
There were conflicting news reports initially about board exam dates. According to some reports, exams were being preponed to February (like Telangana board has already done), while according to others, exam was being scheduled in March only like other years. Putting an end to this confusion, CBSE has announced that class 10 and 12 board exams will be in March 2018. Students can plan their studies and preparation with this in mind.

This information was given with a notice on how CBSE is looking to have “experienced teachers” to have a well executed board exam process. As per this notice, All India Secondary School Examination and All India Senior School Certificate Examination practical exams are to be in January 2018 and theory exams in March 2018. Presence of experienced teachers will ensure an orderly and time bound process.
Exact dates of exams will be known only when CBSE date sheet 2018 release. Date sheet was released on Monday, January 9 last time. In previous session, exams for class 12 took place from Thursday, March 9 to Saturday, April 29. Likewise class 10 were held from Thursday, March 9 to Monday, April 10.
A total of 10,88,891 students appeared for class 12 exams including arts, science, commerce streams. A much larger number, close to 16 lakh appeared in class 10 exams.
CBSE board had made class 10 board exams optional in 2011 upon introducing Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation in 2009. With that in place, students had an option to appear for school based exams instead. This year HRD announced return of class 10 exams after a survey by CBSE concluded that most were in favor of board exams. Eighty percent weightage in final result shall be for board exam result and remaining twenty percent for school based internal evaluation.
