Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has extended the deadline to pay the board examination fee for students of classes 10 and 12. Students shall now be able to pay the examination fees until October 31, 2020. The education board has also decided to open the registration window for students to register for the Class 10 and Class 12 board exams 2021 with an additional fee. This facility shall be available on CBSE’s official website from November 1 to 7, 2020.
CBSE had previously declared that the last date to pay the exam fees was October 15, 2020. However, students, parents and schools were facing many problems due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sanyam Bhardwaj, CBSE’s examination controller announced the extension of registration date in his official statement. He further added through various sources, CBSE was informed that many schools and teachers were facing issues in filling the List of Candidates (LOC) sheet due to the uncertainty created by the COVID crisis.
Taking these problems into consideration, the board has decided to extend the last date of registration from October 15 to 31, 2020. Furthermore, to ease the process of registration, CBSE has also decided to provide the registration with late fee payment after October 31, 2020. The entire official announcement was done through Twitter by CBSE’s official account.

Recently, the Delhi Government wrote a letter to CBSE requesting a postponement of board exams for Class 10 and 12. According to the letter, schools in Delhi and various other states are to remain closed in spite of the Central Government’s permission to open them. Online education and virtual learning are not enough to complete the board portion. Stating these reasons, the government requested CBSE to postpone the exams from March to May 2021. It also wanted the education board to further reduce the board portion to reduce the pressure o schools as well as students.
CBSE was also requested by the Delhi government to waive-off the examination fees this year as a one-time measure for Classes 10 and 12 students. Due to the pandemic, a large number of parents have lost their jobs. Their savings have been used to afford the basic necessities and hence, they are not able to pay the exam fee. The Directorate of Education (DoE) stated in the letter, “Various organizations and people have come forward to provide financial assistance by paying the fees of some students. For this noble cause, CBSE is requested to extend the last date of registration from October 15 to November 14, 2020, to support this noble cause.”
