Result of IIM CAT 2017 now that it has been declared can be checked online at http://www.iimcat.ac.in. All the candidates who have appeared in the Common Admission Test are able to log in to check their results. IIMs will shortlist candidates, more than the number of available seats, for the interview process. Many other B-Schools will also be using the CAT 2017 results and score card for MBA / PGDM admission 2018-2020.
Fun fact: Two years ago also IIMs had announced CAT result on 8th January.
CAT 2017 Score Card is made available on the website. CAT 2017 Percentile is also sent to the candidates through SMS. Candidates can check your SMS and see the result and percentile sent by IIM CAT. Starting now, you can log in and check scores. On the main page of iimcat.ac.in, notification saying that “Score Card CAT 2017 is now available for download” is up.
Now, candidates who appeared in exam and have checked their scores are advised to check the websites of IIMs at regular intervals, and also keep an eye out on their registered email IDs and mobile phones to see if there is any intimation from IIMs about the shortlisting.
As per CAT officials the CAT 2017 result was supposed to be announced in second week of January 2018 and they have stuck to their word.
Date of declaration of result is on January 8, 2018. Details required to check result and download score card are User ID and Password.
Common Admission Test was held in the pre-determined pattern. There were three sections namely Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR), Quantitative Ability (QA). There were 34 questions in VARC, 32 in DILR, 34 in QA sections. Each section had MCQ type questions (question followed by different options, of which one was correct) and non MCQ or TITA (Type In The Answer) questions where answers had to be typed into the computer.
CAT 2017 exam pattern had the following marking scheme: +3 marks for correct answer, -1 mark for incorrect answer (only for MCQ type questions). There was no negative marking for non-MCQ / TITA questions.
The first step of arriving at the marks in exam is to calculate marks obtained by checking correct and incorrect answers.
Next, the marks are scaled and normalized.
As mentioned above, the exam has been conducted in two slots on the same date. To adjust differences between the two sessions, scores obtained in each section, and overall is subjected to scaling and normalization.
CAT 2017 was conducted in two sessions. Two different Test Forms shall be administered in two Test Sessions. In order to ensure fairness and equity in comparison of performances of the candidates across different test sessions, the scores of the candidates shall be subjected to a process of Normalization. Normalization process to be implemented shall adjust for location and scale differences of score distributions across different forms. After normalization across different forms the scores shall be further normalized across different sections and the scaled scores obtained by this process shall be converted into percentiles for purposes of shortlisting. For purposes of reporting, Scaled Scores for each section (Section I: Quantitative Ability, Section II: Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning and Section III: Verbal Ability) and Total along with the Percentiles shall be published. The process of Normalization is an established practice for comparing candidate scores across multiple Forms and is similar to those being adopted in other large educational selection tests conducted in India such as Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). For normalization across sections we shall use a sort of percentile equivalence.
If you have checked your result of CAT 2017, you know the percentile obtained. The next step is to get shortlisted for one of the IIMs or other management colleges. You need not separately apply for IIMs, but other B schools invite MBA / PGDM / Management programs applications. If you have not yet applied to other colleges, you should apply for MBA Admission 2018 on the basis of CAT 2017 as per dates announced by individual colleges.
