Director Gen Armed Forces Medical Services has published notification for Army Dental Corps recruitment 2020 through NEET MDS 2020. Candidates who wish to join Indian Army as short service commissioned officer need to apply and appear in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) MDS 2020 being conducted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) first.
A short notification in this regard has been published in the employment news. The notification says, “Director Gen Armed Forces Medical Services will invite applications from Civilian Dental Surgeons (BDS & MDS) for Grant of Short Service Commission, for the commissioning cycle of 2020 on the basis of NEET MDS-2020 to be conducted by National Board of Examinations (NBE), New Delhi, under the aegis of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.”
The role of NEET MDS exam would be form the basis of shortlisting. Regarding it, the notification reads “(a) Candidates (BDS & MDS) desirous for Grant of Short Service Commission will have to mandatorily appear for NEET MDS -2020. Candidates are advised to keep a lookout for the notification of NEET MDS-2020.(b) Based on the Score in NEET MDS-2020, candidates will be screened shortlisted for the interview. (c) Further details will be available on the website of INDIAN ARMY (www.indianarmy. nic.in) in due course of time. The candidates are therefore advised to visit the site & to read the Information Bulletin carefully as & when it is uploaded.”
Registration and other details will be available at joindianarmy.nic.in in time. Whereas NBE has already released NEET MDS 2020 application form at nbe.edu.in.

This is not the first time that Indian Army Dental Corps recruitment is being done through NBE NEET MDS exam. The same was done for recruitment for the year 2019, when it was done through NEET MDS 2019.
In the last recruitment, there were 65 vacancies. Applications were invited from May to June. the maximum age limit for the post was set as 45, and candidates with at least 55% in BDS were allowed to apply.
The selection process will consist of three things. First of all, candidates must apply separately for NEET MDS 2020, and the Army Dental Corps 2020 recruitment. Second, they have to appear in the exam and on the basis of their scores, Indian Army will shortlist them. Then third, shortlisted candidates will be asked to come for interview and document verification.
There are expected to certain restrictions on physical standards also. Last time, the minimum acceptable height for men was157.5 cms, and weight 49.5 kgs. Likewise for women, the minimum height was 152 cms, and weight 42 kgs.
In Army Dental Corps, civilian dental surgeons are bestowed the rank of a Captain. He or she works in pay scale, level 10 B (61,300-1,93,900) of Defence Pay Matrix as elaborated in Army Pay Rules-2017 (7 th Pay Commission).
NEET MDS 2020 is the national level MDS entrance exam. However as can be seen, it is not just an entrance exam but is now being used for recruitment purpose also. Registration for the exam has started, at nbe.edu.in. To apply for the qualifying cum ranking examination for admission to MDS courses, candidates need to visit nbe.edu.in and fill the form by October 31, 2019. The exam will be held on December 20, 2019. It will be a computer based test with 240 MCQs, of 3 hours.
