The selection for APGENCO Assistant Engineer will now be based on the GATE scores. Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Limited (APGENCO) has recently announced that candidates who have valid GATE scores are eligible for the Assistant Engineer posts. A public notice in this regard has also been published recently on the official website of Corporation, apgenco.gov.in.

On May 19, 2021, the corporation announced changes in the selection procedure for Assistant Engineer posts. Earlier the candidates were selected for the Assistant Engineer posts based on the written examination. Now, candidates must have a valid Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE). They must have cleared the GATE exam within one year from the date of notification for the recruitment.
Earlier, the selection procedure for APGENCO included a written examination which is the first stage of the selection procedure. Now, this stage is ruled out by the corporation. There will be no written examination for the candidates participating in the APGENCO Assistant Engineer examination.
The second stage included the running of eligible candidates in the merit list based on the performance in the written examination. The community wise provisional selection is as per rules in vogue. According to the new changes, candidates with only GATE scores in a particular discipline can apply for the APGENCO AE recruitment. The candidates will be ranked in the merit list based on the community wise without interview as per rules in vogue.
The third rule of the Assistant Engineer selection process remains unchanged. Candidates will be allocated the Zones/ Generating Stations as per their rank of the merit list only. Also, the zonal preference for allotment of non-local candidates against the vacancies will be considered. The selection will be made state wise in respect to the non-local candidates. However, the allotment of the zones will be based on the preference given by the candidate in the APGENCO AE application form.
GATE is a national level examination that is conducted by the India Institute of Bombay. This exam is conducted on behalf of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, Department of Higher Education and National Coordination Board (NCB)-GATE exam. Students who qualify for the GATE exam can take admission to various Universities all across the nation. Not only this, but several Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) also uses GATE scores for recruitment.
