In the latest notification, Anna University has canceled the Anna University Common Entrance Test (AUCET). The university will now conduct the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) 2019 for admission to the postgraduate courses. The registration form for TANCET 2019 is releasing on 06 May. Along with it, complete details regarding the entrance examination will also be available.
Earlier on 28 April, the university issued a notice that it would conduct its own examination instead of TANCET 2019. The announcement confused the students whether TANCET would take place or not. TANCET is the state level via which admission to all the affiliated colleges can be taken. Whereas, AUCET was the university level exam for admission to Anna University only.
Now, the TANCET 2019 will continue as the single PG admission entrance examination in Tamil Nadu. The earlier decision was taken after vice-chancellor of Anna University resigned from Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission (TNEA) committee due to the difference in opinion. After the VC’s resignation, Directorate of Technical Education took the charge to conduct engineering courses online counseling. According to the latest decision, DoTE will be the co-chairman and the VC will be the chairman of the committee.
Until now, only the TANCET 2019 Application Form release date is available. The complete schedule and admission process is still yet not updated on the official website, annauniv.edu. As per the last year pattern, the registration is a four-step process. It includes registration, filling the application form, uploading photograph & signature, and payment of application fee. In the previous year, the exam fee was Rs 500/- for general candidates and Rs 250/- for the reserved category ie SC / SCA / ST.
Before applying for the TANCET 2019 exam, candidates must carefully check the eligibility requirements. For MBA, a candidate must have graduation degree with atleast 50% aggregate marks. For MCA, a candidate also needs to have an undergraduate degree with Mathematics as a compulsory subject. Also, 50% marks for general and 45% for the reserved category are required. Candidates interested in M.E/ M.Tech/ M.Arch/ M.Plan must have a graduate degree with 50% aggregate marks.
The exam pattern for each course is different and the detailed syllabus will be available on the information brochure. The admission process for the mentioned PG courses takes places as per the written test and counselling round. The counselling conducts for MBA and MCA courses only. Candidates who have valid GATE 2017, 2018, and 2019 scores are exempted from TANCET 2019.
