The Telangana State Education Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy has announced that students of Classes 1 to 9 will be promoted to the next standard without appearing for the examinations. A total of 53,79,388 students will be promoted to the next class without examination. The Minister also added that the decision regarding reopening the schools, and junior colleges will be taken on June 1 after reviewing the pandemic situation.
Earlier, the Telangana Board also announced that the class 10th students need not appear for the board exam as they have been cancelled. Meanwhile, class 12th exams have been postponed till the situation is better for the board to conduct the exam.
The promotion of 5,21,392 class 10th students will be based on the guidelines which will be released by the board later on. Furthermore, Intermediate 1st year students have also been promoted, however they will be able to appear for examinations once the situation improves, informed the Telangana government.
The state has also announced summer vacation from April 27 to May 21, 2021, in light of the huge spike in the Covid-19 second wave. As per the official notification released “The Telangana government has announced that there is no detention system for classes 1-9 in the state and there is no need to conduct examinations. All students are promoted to the next higher classes to prevent the spread of coronavirus”.
Now that the schools are closed, a rigorous assessment is not possible and the schools are looking for other ways to help those who need to catch up. Furthermore, many schools feel an urgent need to bridge the learning gaps amongst the students by holding home-based assessments during the summer holidays.
