As per the reports more than 9.65 lakh candidates have enrolled for the JEE Main 2019 exam to be held between January 06 to 20, 2019. As per the sources, the number of registrations received was more than the expectations of NTA. The registrations for JEE Main 2019 January Exam ended on September 30, 2018. The form correction window will open from October 08, 2018 for the registered candidates.
National Testing Agency (NTA) will be conducting JEE Main for the first time starting form 2019 onwards, twice a year. The JEE Main 2019 – II exam will be held in the month of April 2019. Sources say that NTA has anticipated registrations from about 6 lakh candidates for the first attempt. However, they have received a much larger figure.
According to the sources at HRD ministry, this figure definitely has proven to be a support to the idea of conducting JEE Main twice a year and in online mode only.
As per the report out of the total 9.65 lakh registered candidates, 6.85 lakhs are males and 2.8 lakhs are females. In addition to that, 38 transgenders have applied. Also, going by the category, 4.72 lakh applications are received from the General candidates, 3.67 lakh OBC candidates have applied, 0.89 lakh SC candidates have applied and 0.36 lakh applications are received from the ST category.
In the year 2018, until when JEE Main was held once a year, the registrations received were around 12 lakhs. This year, for the first exam of JEE Main 2019, the registration received are almost 2.5 lakh less. However, a second chance is available in the month of April for every eligible candidate.
The reason for less applicant in the January exam, as compared to previous year, as per the sources is because of the preparation for board exams and since the second exam will be just 3 months later, the smaller number of registration is a no surprise.

The practical exam of class 12 boards seems to be falling between January 06 to 20, 2018 and thus clashing with the JEE Main 2019 January exam. However, candidates will have a second attempt available in April 2019, if they choose not to appear in January exam or wish to appear in the April exam again.
The concern here is that the female registrations received for JEE Main 2019 is very low. Only 29% applications for JEE Main 2019 January exam are from female candidates. 54% applicants of JEE Main 2019 are from urban region.
The NTA run Test Practice Centers are working efficiently and as per the sources from next week more test series will be made available at these centers online for the aspirants.
JEE Main 2019 application process is closed, however, a one-time window to correct any mistake in the application forms will be available from October 08 to 14, 2018. Registered candidates will be able to access their application form under their login and can make changes is required.
